Simon Anderson - Bottle Update
30th Mar 2009

Jay Bottle Thompson gets a start in the Quik Pro at Snapper Jay failed to requalify on last years WCT finishing 3 places out of the 44. With the retirement of Bruce Irons and his brother Andy having a year off that left Jay first alternate. It’s been a feature of the tour in the last few years that some one ends up injured for about 75% of the year Last year it was Damien Hobgood the year before Timmy Reyes.
So without wishing ill on his fellow competitors it looks like Jay should get a few starts on the elite tour.
First up with Mick Campbell struggling with a knee injury gave Bottle the opportunity to compete in this years Snapper Pro. Being a Burleigh boy it is in the first CT event of the year in his own back yard. Jay had a good strong first heat defeating the event winner Parko in a close one at D-Bah.
We hope to see Jay feature some more on the WCT this year.
Jay’s Boards
The Bx2 Model is associated with Jay’s board development program We have established this year at 88 kilos Jay’s tall and lanky frame requires dimensions of 6’3 by 18 ¾ wide and 2 71/16 thick, basically a low soft normal SA rail, deep single concave with a tiny double through the fin area and rounded square or round tail.

We are working on 2 rocker styles
Rocker 1 – a lower than usual smooth nose entry with moderate plus tail rocker Jay likes this in the beach breaks and points of the Gold Coast
Rocker 2 – moderate slightly flipped in the nose area nose entry with a flatter smooth tail rocker with rounded pin tail for reef breaks like Bells Beach
Note - the above rockers are in comparison with the XFC rocker which is pretty much moderate smooth nose entry and moderate tail rocker
It is a feature of tall lanky guys that they can flow between 2 rocker styles which is unusual.Usually surfers will find a rocker style and that’s it.
There are 3 rocker styles - front foot like (Tom Curran) which is low nose with moderate tail rocker, back foot – (like the Hobgood’s and Jake Paterson) moderate plus nose and low or flatter tail rocker and normal stance – a rocker right in the middle with moderate nose and smooth or moderate tail. With tall guys they can surf with a little front and back foot technique at times because long legs and wider stance allow there center of gravity forward and back more.
The end results of our early development will be the new BX2 for release later this year.
