The Simmons Report

The Simmons Report

Mini Simmons 5'6"

The Simmons fills the gap that other fishes don't reach. It is the board that you can have fun on when the surf looks otherwise unrideable. You laugh at other shortboards because you have speed and are smiling while still carving. You laugh at malibus as you catch their waves but are able to do reos and figure 8's in slop.

Of course this board is not designed for sucky A-Frames so stop looking for the all rounder, this won't be it. You will have the time of your mushy life as you suss out how these things work. Paddle on to anything, let is run and as you get ready for the frontside cutback move your back foot from the toe rail to the heel rail then boombah, round she flies, along with some squirt.

I have never had a bad surf on these boards and when you and a mate have one each you feel like you own the 1 foot waves, smiling ear to ear. I rode both the first and second of Murray's Simmons and preferred the Carbon tailed #2 version as it had a thinner rail and was more responsive. My normal board is a 6'2"x 18 3/4"x 2 7/16" and I think these were 5'6. Give yourself time to get used to the riding and be ready to move your back foot. These boards are almost essential part of the quiver especially around spring in marginal conditions.
