Simon Anderson Blog - JAY QUALIFIES FOR ASP WCT 2010

'Monday November 23 at Haleiwa  in the Reef Hawaiian Pro Jay Bottle Thompson clawed his way to the final and an eventual 3rd place finish to secure a birth in next years elite WCT Dream Tour. The surf was a solid 4 - 6 feet with occasional 8 footers although at times a little inconsistent. If you followed Jay’s progress live on the ASP live web cast it was a little nerve racking but he some how managed to get the waves and scores required to advance.

In the first half of the final Jay held down the lead with some solid power surfing on the at times bumpy and difficult to surf Haleiwa faces getting a real sniff of what it feels like to win in Hawaii. He was overtaken by a late charging former World Champ C J Hobgood and eventual winner Joel Centeio the local young Hawaiian charger who snagged an impressive barrel on a set wave in the closing moments for a well deserved win.

Congratulations Bottle after a tough year even though he had a start in every 2009 CT contest Jay was 3rd reserve and never really new if he’d get a start or not. Towards the end of this year he had to redirect focus for qualification to the WQS circuit and to Jay’s credit with 2nd at the 6 star O’Neil Cold Water Classic in Canada in late October and now 3rd at the 6 star prime Reef Hawaiian Pro he has compiled enough points for a guaranteed start next year.

The pleasing bonus for us is Bottle surfing Simon boards this season on the North Shore. Hopefully he can keep it going and cause a growing ripple for the Triple Crown stay tuned.' Simon Anderson.
