"Personal Custom Service" for Bourton Shapes

Bourton Logo By Murray Bourton

ORDERING A CUSTOM SHAPED BOURTON SURFBOARD

Murray at Snapper RocksI have a sense of late that there is a perception out there in the market that the custom shape is almost in the “too hard basket”. Sought after shapers are ducking for cover and it’s almost common knowledge that they pass the job onto their support shapers anyway. Add to that there are a lot more surfboard shops around due to the clothing companies growing retail ambitions. These shops and others are holding a shit load of stock and a great diversity of product choice, so why is the custom shape still relevant in this current climate?

It is true that the market in the last few years has more than doubled and there are huge numbers of beginners out there who do not need the direct relationship with a shaper. Nevertheless it is naïve to think that the guys that have been around in surfing for the last 15 years or even longer who are in sync with their equipment and it’s on going development, are going to convert to buying shaper models out of their local shops from salesman that know jack about what they are spruiking.

For those who are willing to pay a fair price I am ready to offer an on line service that will encourage extensive dialogue in order to get it right. There are questions I need answered however before a dialogue will commence and they are as follows:

1.
Your weight in kilos

2.

Your height in feet and inches
3.
Your feet size
4.
Your years of experience
5.
Wave size intended
6.
If you have a quiver where will this board fit? What are the dimensions of the boards you have at the moment?
7.
Dimensions needed are: Length, width, thickness, rail thickness and deck roll, bottom shape, fin type and position, and tail shape. For a better more accurate service the widths 12 inches up from the tail and 12 inches down from the nose. An overview of the rocker would also speak volumes.
8.
Lastly I need to know how those boards went describing their shortfalls and benefits.

The bottom line is the more I understand about the board you are currently riding the better I can improve on it.

PROCEDURE

Bourton LineupAs this professes to be a personal service I want to keep it simply that. Initially you will email me on murray@basesurfboards.com and give me the details requested above as well as what you want changed.

My intention is to continue a dialogue until it is time to touch base by phone by giving you my number; international enquiries may prohibit this. Always be aware when quoting I need to know your complete address in order to give you an accurate freight price. All quotes will be door to door which means we will deliver it to your front door as airport collection although cheaper becomes a drama.

Or see me at the BASE SUPERBANK store on Saturday's!

DESIGN VERIFICATION

Before I start the shape a PDF file will be sent to you so you can view the design and give it the go ahead. You will be able to check the profile that will show you nose and tail lifts. It will also show you 3 slices through the board so you can check your bottom contours as well as your rail shape.

PAYMENT

To keep it simple a credit card payment over the phone will be the desired method. If the order is a little left of centre we might demand a 50% deposit. All boards need to be fully paid for before being sent.
