THE "NEW MOON FISH"

I have been a little frustrated with the "full moon" of late, it seems to me that it is the weak link in the Fun Fish Series, so I have set about to make it a functional member of the team. The Retro Fish is essentially a twinny with a stabilizer and the Bat Fish is a pure Quad, so the Moon is to fit right in the middle posturing as a feel in between the two extremes.

To obtain this feel the New Moon is to be another quad but with a difference. The front fins are sized and positioned as normal, however the rear fins are positioned much closer to the front fins and are a very small vector fin made by future fins, which is small but powerful due to its concaved inside surface. The feeling will be similar to a twinny but with a little more reach and speed but not to the extent of a full blown quad.

The rocker is very flat up front with a little late flip in the very end. The tail has a lot more rocker and is punctuated with a very deep double concave which runs right out the tail giving the board heaps of squirt out of turns, which can be directed up the face or along it coz the board has the freedom of a twinny.

The bottom shape is the same as all the Fun Fish and that is a concave under the chest and a double concaved vee in the back, and in this model the double is extreme right on the tail.

New Moon Profile

The tail shape is still a moon but not as spiky on the tips as previous Moon Fish. There is a little more thrust with this moon tail and it is also sturdier than the old shape.

This particular sample has been glassed in a retro Yuk out style with a flat finish for the purpose of maintaining lightness. Finish coats and polishing not only escalates the price but adds heaps to the weight. In this case fashion does not dictate function, so the finish is flat and looks in my opinion better than a shiny reflecting surface anyway.

The new Moon Fish is constantly being refined and tested and will be ready for the market this Christmas. The design will feature Future Fins with the small C 5 box and stabilizer fins.
