THE HPL - HIGH PERFORMANCE LIGHTWEIGHT

The response to the inspiration series was to be expected and I knew I would be bombarded with requests to make bigger and thicker models. To keep true to the concept I have ignored those requests for bigger inspiration models; however, I have met demand by introducing the HPL which is exactly the same glass job and stringer combo. The designs come in the longer lengths and are a mixture of the high performance tricks in the Inspirations. For bigger guys around 80 kilos plus who want to ride the latest and the lightest within reason the HPL is the way to go.

GLASSING

Obviously the customer for these models will be paying a lot more than the teamriders, so the glass work has to be stronger, but it still needs to be light otherwise the very essence will be lost. The team are riding 4 x 4 diagonal, with a 4 ply stringer and carbon flaps on the tail, to keep the rail edges in the tail intact. The models are glassed with 6oz, 0 x 90 on the deck with a 4oz diagonal bottom and also with a 4 ply stringer that is no heavier but heaps stronger. The carbon flaps and the 6oz deck make the deck stronger than the team weight and only slightly heavier. Perhaps the other slight difference is that the models will be offered with FCS rather than set fins more commonly asked for by the team riders. In fact if they were not so spooked by the massive choice in FCS fins they would probably love 'em. The new Sunny fin looks to be the goods for these designs and I will be encouragingpunters to lean that way.

SIZES

6'2 x 18'1/4 x 2'1/8
6'3 x 18'3/8 x 2'3/16
6'4 x 18'1/2 x 2'¼
6'6 x 18'3/4 x 2'5/16

Basically these designs have hips and deeper concaves, they are squash tails with small boxy rails and slightly veed decks. The boxy rail allows the thickness in the centre to be kept to a minimum so if they seem thin numerically they are certainly not in the rail.

I have drawn the line at 6'6 coz I reckon the concept gets lost any longer than that.

Customs in this model are welcome as I have only covered the common dimension for a common customer weight.
