Who is BASE?

BASE, Boards and Surf Equipment Pty Ltd is the market leader in manufacturing surfboards in Australia. It is majority owned by the three founding shapers Simon Anderson, Darren Handley and Murray Bourton. These world class shapers, along with up and coming shaper, Luke Short (LSD Surfboards), have worked individually and collectively to grow their brands under the banner of Base.

Base is a specialized surfboard hardware company with the capability of manufacturing large numbers of finely tuned modern surfboards in order to keep pace with the growing world wide demand. The skill level of surfboard manufacturing in Australia is the best in the world, which is why Australian made boards, are recognized around the world as market leaders. We are also successfully combating the China imports by offering an affordable surfboard with premium performance, produced here in Australia.

Base produces the complete range of surfboards for every stage of surfing – from making surfboards for beginners through to top world ranked surfers.

Even though our focus is on surfboard manufacturing, we also have three hard core surfboard specialist retail outlets; BASE Superbank, in Coolangatta, Queensland, Simon Anderson BASE Manly, Sydneyand BASE Torquay in Victoria.

The individual shapers at Base have come together to:

combine the skills of several shapers allowing them to share valuable shaping design techniques and create the latest thinking in surfboard technology
build state-of-the-art shaping facilities where the best boards in Australia could be produced
provide a superior shopping experience for surfers when selecting and buying a surfboard.

And it’s worked. BASE now produces surfboards ridden by the best surfers in the world. A sign of this success is that our boards are exported around the globe to Brazil, Japan, France, the USA and more.
